How to Care for Your Fresh Flowers

There’s something special about having fresh flowers in your home. With just a little care, you can help your blooms stay beautiful and enjoy them for as long as possible.

Here are a few simple tips from our floral studi

Fresh-Cut Flowers & Hand-Tied Bouquets

Start with a clean vase filled with fresh, lukewarm water. Add flower food according to the package directions.
Before placing your flowers in the vase, remove any foliage that would sit below the waterline and give the stems a fresh trim. Cutting approximately ½–1 inch from the stems at an angle helps them take up water more easily.

Refresh the water every 2–3 days, cleaning the vase and trimming the stems again as needed. If the water becomes cloudy, change it sooner.

Vase Arrangements

If your flowers arrived already arranged in a vase, check the water level daily and add fresh water as needed. Every few days, gently refresh the water if possible.

As individual flowers naturally reach the end of their vase life, remove them so the remaining blooms can continue to shine.

Floral Foam Arrangements

For arrangements designed in floral foam, keeping the foam moist is especially important. Carefully add fresh water each day or as needed, pouring slowly near the center of the arrangement.

The container may not be watertight, so take care when watering and protect delicate furniture or surfaces underneath.

Find the Right Spot

Flowers are happiest in a cool, comfortable place. Keep your arrangement away from:

•Direct sunlight
•Heating and air-conditioning vents
•Drafts and excessive heat
•Ripening fruit
(Ripening fruit naturally releases ethylene gas, which can cause fresh flowers to age more quickly).

A Little Grooming Goes a Long Way

Flowers don't all age at the same rate. Some blooms may last longer than others—and that's perfectly natural.

Remove spent flowers and fading foliage as needed. You may also rearrange the remaining blooms into a smaller vase as the arrangement changes. Sometimes those last few beautiful stems can be enjoyed for several more days.

Enjoy Your Flowers

Flowers are meant to be enjoyed. Watch them open, change and take on a different character from one day to the next.

We hope your flowers bring a little beauty to your day.
